Citroen C4 2021: the new engines cut emissions

The PSA Group continues to work to concretely reduce CO2 emissions of the models in its range, offering motorists the possibility to always choose the clean engine that best suits every type of need. A strategy that will also be followed by Stellantis, the new conglomerate born from the merger with FCA.

The symbol of models capable of reducing emissions is the Citroen C4 of 2021. The car, of which several details are already known thanks to the reveal presented in July, will be equipped with a very wide range of engines ranging from full electric to PureTech petrol 1.2 from 100 and 150 horsepower, passing through the BlueHDI 1.5 turbodiesel engines with 110 and 130 horsepower. PSA confirms the importance of diesel variants in the programs of the new Citroen C4. For the market in Great Britain, the French brand estimates that the electric version e-C4 it will represent 10% of sales, while the diesel variant is expected to be around 17%.

Robert Clark, the head of product marketing of Citroen UK, underlined the fundamental role that the diesel variants of the C4 will have in the British and European market: “We have noticed a slight change in favor of diesel at the beginning of 2020 – he explained in a interview with Autocar magazine – we are committed to explaining to our dealers what are the advantages of diesel for customers. CO2 emissions are much lower than gasoline models and reducing them has become a primary goal for the industry, due to the fines imposed on manufacturers.

In England the demand for diesel powertrains was even more evident in the sales of the SUV C5 Aircross, with 70% of customers choosing this type of engine. Thanks to the great return of diesel, Citroen has managed to lower the average CO2 emissions of its fleet to 95 g / km, thus reaching the new target imposed by the limits set by the European Union.

In Italy too, diesel is recovering: at the top of the Used car sales rankings there are diesel models, while both in our country and throughout Europe, customers continue to slightly prefer 100% electric or hybrid-plugin models for the purchase of new cars.

The 2021 Citroen C4 will be equipped with diesel engines capable of offering very low overall emissions levels in line with future standards, including units Blue HDI 110 combined with a 6-speed manual gearbox e BlueHDI 130 with 8-speed automatic transmission. Versions with larger engines, on the other hand, will gradually be phased out from the market.
