Citroën Berlingo and other passenger vans end up with internal combustion engines

Peugeot, Citroën and Opel are launching a new year with a bold step. Conventional MPVs built from small deliveries in most European markets are disappearing from the offer, only their electric versions will go to production this year. The Stellantis Group, to which these brands belong, announced this in press releases.

“There is no alternative to electrification,” says a Opel press release. “Citroën is shifting its offerings in the MPV and leisure car segment towards the energy of the future, which will allow customers to continue to move freely and monitor costs,” says the Citroën brand. And it recalls that the C4 Spacetourer remains available with conventional powertrains.

The change applies to all versions except purely utility versions. This means that the Rifter, Traveler and Expert Combi will only be able to be ordered with Peugeot with an electric drive system. For Opel it’s Combo Life, Zafira Life and Vivaro Combi, for Citroën it’s Berling and Spacetourer. Existing orders will not be affected, as will warehouse trucks.

Some national automotive websites already reflect this change, however, it can be expected that where the combustion version appears to be available, the change will be implemented relatively quickly.

As a reminder, all of these cars share an electric powertrain. It offers 136 horses driving the front wheels. The electric motor draws energy from a battery with a capacity of 50 kWh, with some versions it is possible to pay extra for a larger, 75 kWh battery.
