Citizens of Patras, who have set up the “Initiative for the Marina” Group, are expressing their indignation, seeking something to change the image it has had since the 2021 deadline.
Addressing questions to the municipal authority, which has owned the Marina for the last few years and having collected signatures, they will soon be at the City Hall, where they will file a protest document.
“Peloponnisos” spoke with the Group’s communication representative, Vassilis Vrachas – with many “kilometres” of travel in Maritime Tourism and formerly a privately owned Sailing School – an excellent connoisseur of the “pluses and minuses” of the importance of a beautiful image on its seafront city.
“Finally, the scene of the broken Marina is no longer acceptable. We have gathered people involved in the coastal zone and we are asking the Municipality to take action. The cost of reconstruction does not exceed 40,000 euros and it is a shame that no action is taken. Recently, there were visitors and athletes of the IQfoil European Championship and it is certain that the experiences they will bring to their countries will only be of honor and not for Patras”.
Mr. Vrachas also gave another special aspect related to the financial aspect, since money is being lost from the city, since it does not have a modern Marina to accommodate boats. “Don’t the authorities understand that with a damaged Marina, boats do not dock and are forced to go to neighboring towns such as Aigio, Nafpaktos and Lefkada? He cannot, at the same time, be giving thousands of euros to the construction of Elos Agias and not to our Marina” says Mr. Vrachas.
The Municipality of Patreon issued a response statement, in which it states: “It is not just a coincidence that, at the moment when it is known to everyone that in the next few days the approval of the study for the Marina will be made and the terms of the tender for the tender will be voted and commissioning the supply of the new projectors, some were “concerned”. They were “concerned” and made a fool of themselves, this week, for the Marina that for decades did not even have a license. We tell them not to worry. The municipal authority, unlike the previous ones, raced, in an adverse environment, to complete as quickly as possible, studies and bureaucratic procedures for the restoration of the Marina after the damages at the end of 2021. In the following period, the Marina will start to change her appearance”.
