Citizens gathered on Thursday (May 25) evening in front of the Russian Cultural and Information Center in Sofia to protest against the screening of the documentary film “Azovstal”, against which the Embassy of Ukraine in Bulgaria issued a strong statement.
The Ukrainian embassy defines the event as open propaganda of the war, conducted by Russian diplomats on the territory of a member state of the EU and NATO. The diplomatic mission states that since the beginning of the full-scale military invasion of Ukraine, Russia has committed almost 85,000 war crimes and tens of thousands of Ukrainian citizens have been killed.
According to the Embassy of Ukraine, the projection of “Azovstal” is an attempt to justify the crime, aggression and occupation of Ukrainian territories, the destruction of the Ukrainian “hero city” Mariupol and the metallurgical plant “Azovstal”, the distortion of the facts about the heroic defense of the city, the erasure of the murders of thousands of Ukrainian civilians by Russian war criminals.
“The Embassy of Ukraine draws attention to the actions of the diplomatic mission of the Russian Federation in the Republic of Bulgaria, which systematically spreads military propaganda and the ideology of racism”, the position of the Ukrainian Embassy is highlighted.
The Russian Cultural and Information Center in Sofia is attached to the Embassy of the Russian Federation.
