Citizens’ personal responsibility counts – letters to the editor


On: “Is the value of skiing higher than that of human life?”, Letter from Martina Klöckler and other letters (forum, December 24)

Coincidentally, I came across the December 24th letters to the editor. As a Swiss woman living in Bern, I am shocked by that. The Corona question is not about economy versus health.

Sure, the many deaths mean a lot of human suffering, that cannot be downplayed. If low-wage earners are put on short-time work or have to fear for their job, doesn’t this also result in human suffering? Or when people get lonely, isn’t that human suffering too? There are also many drastic measures in place in Switzerland. In some places these are less strict than in Germany – for the reasons mentioned above. What counts here is the individual responsibility of the citizens, which the majority perceive. Brigitte Nyffenegger, Bern
