Two Austrian citizens, one German and one northern Macedonian, were killed in a terrorist attack in Vienna on Monday, Vienna police said on Wednesday, disclosing information about the victims’ nationality.
23 people were injured. The majority of the injured are Austrians, but the injured also include citizens of Germany, Slovakia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Luxembourg and Afghanistan.
The three injured are still receiving intensive care, but their condition is stable, Vienna hospitals confirmed.
The shooting was carried out in the center of Vienna on Monday night by 20-year-old Albanian-born Islamic State supporter Kujtim Fejzulais, who had Austrian and northern Macedonian citizenship.
He was shot by the police himself.
The young man was sentenced to one year and ten months in prison last April for trying to go to Syria to join the Islamic State. However, in December he was released early and involved in a deradicalisation program.
