WASHINGTON (AP) – CJ Abrams’ third game success led the decisive run into the bottom 10th inning, and the Washington Nationals beat the Atlanta Braves 3-2 Wednesday night, dropping to second place in the East of the National.
The Braves (97-59) are a match behind the New York Mets. Both teams open a three-game series in Atlanta, weather permitting.
Dominican Victor Robles opened the tenth against Jackson Stephens (3-3). Robles was initially declared safe, but the call was canceled.
Alex Call, however, moved up to third place. With the interior inside, Venezuelan up-and-coming Cesar Hernandez was given a free walk. Lane Thomas went down in third place, but Abrams chose right court, bringing Call to the pot.
Matt Olson has two hits, including his 30th homer of the season for the Braves.
Kyle Finnegan (6-4) pitched two innings for the win.
Atlanta drew 2-2 in the eighth. With two out and one runner per second, Michael Harris II hit a ball on the ground in the center. Luis Garcia stopped the line with a dive, but his pitch rebounded first and Joey Meneses couldn’t control him. Harris was safe and Dansby Swanson scored the equalizer with the ball going wide.
For the Braves, Puerto Rican Eddie Rosario 4-2. Venezuelans William Contreras 2-1, Orlando Arcia 3-0 and Ronald Acuña Jr. 5-0.
For the national teams, the Dominican Victor Robles 3-0. Mexican Joey Meneses 4-0. Venezuelan Ildemaro Vargas 4-0.
