Frankfurt celebrates twice. A community festival brings music, theater and culture to the city. Both German reunification and the birthday of the New Old Town are celebrated on the Römerberg.
The city of Frankfurt is preparing for a special double anniversary. On Thursday and Friday, October 3rd and 4th, not only the 34th anniversary of German reunification will be celebrated, but also the six year anniversary of Frankfurt’s New Old Town.
Under the motto “Jazz for the Third”, a community festival is taking place on the Römerberg, which celebrates the Day of German Unity with music. “The offering is huge and, like our city, diverse,” announces Mayor Mike Josef. In addition to international jazz music by well-known artists on the Römerberg stage, the program also includes theater performances, exhibitions and exciting lectures in museums and event venues.
A special highlight awaits visitors on October 3rd at 6:30 p.m.: On the Römerberg stage, “Germany sings & sounds” invites guests of all generations and cultures to sing along. More than 15 Frankfurt choirs support this campaign.
The play “WE The Basic Law” is being performed in the Paulskirche – an entertaining one-person play that highlights the importance of the Basic Law for everyday life. In addition, construction fence exhibitions on the founding of the Federal Republic of Germany and the history of democracy can be seen on the Römerberg. A historical printing press from 1849, the model of which was used to print the basic rights of the Paulskirche constitution, is also on display.
The celebrations will take place on Thursday, October 3rd, from 1 to 8:30 p.m. and Friday, October 4, from 1 to 8 p.m.
