Opinions are divided on the citizen’s allowance. For some, the standard rate of citizen’s allowance is too low, for others it is too high and therefore detrimental to the willingness to work in Germany. One thing is certain: according to the Federal Statistical Office, almost 5.5 million people in Germany currently make their living from citizen’s allowance. For them, the payment dates of the social benefit are therefore extremely important. But when will the money actually be in the account in October 2024?
Citizens’ allowance: In addition to the standard rate, there is a subsidy for rent
According to the Federal Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs (BMAS), the citizen’s allowance is basically intended for people of working age who “cannot cover their living expenses from their own income or assets.” The entitlement to citizen’s allowance also entitles people to other subsidies than the standard rate, for example for rent. Because if the housing costs are reasonable, the office also covers the gross rent of citizen’s allowance recipients. In addition to citizen’s allowance, other benefits such as parental allowance or child allowance can also be received.
The monthly standard rate is available to everyone who has previously had their application for citizen’s allowance approved. The money is transferred to the account of those affected on a monthly basis. But when will it be there in October 2024?
Citizens’ allowance: When will the money be in the account in October 2024?
According to the Federal Employment Agency, citizen’s allowance must be available on the first working day of a month for that month, i.e. it must be in the recipient’s account. In response to a request from our editorial team, the authority stated in the past that citizen’s allowance “(…) must always be credited to the benefit recipient’s accounts (…) on the last working day of the previous month”. The payment date for October 2024 is therefore Monday, September 30th.
