For the first time, Colombia extradited a citizen of its country to the United States for marketing and distributing fentanyl, the so-called “zombie drug,” which has generated a public health crisis in the North American country.
“After exhaustive police cooperation work, the first extradition by the national government of the Colombian citizen Dabinsson Niño Meyer was carried out from the city of Bogotá to the United States,” reported the National Police of Colombia, cited by Blu Radio.
Niño, 39, is wanted by the US Justice Department, which accuses him of the crimes of illicit drug trafficking, conspiracy to distribute, and possession with the intention of distributing fentanyl, Semana reported.
According to the investigation, Niño was a member of a criminal organization and would be responsible for distributing large quantities of fentanyl, mainly in the US states of Pennsylvania and New York, between 2017 and 2019.
“It was learned that within the organization there were specific responsibilities such as maintaining, marketing fentanyl and distributing the profits from it with the members of the organization,” said the Colombian Police.
Detention
On March 22, 2022, Niño was captured, for extradition purposes, in a rural area of the municipality of Acacias, department of Meta, in the center of the South American country.
The Police made it clear that the crimes committed by Niño occurred only in the United States, so he is not linked to any judicial process in Colombia. With RT
