Citigruop Retail Service Leave RI, OJK Opens Voice

Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – The financial industry regulator, the Financial Services Authority (OJK), responded to the announcement from Citigroup to close its retail business in 13 countries, including Indonesia.

Chairman of the Board of Commissioners of the Financial Services Authority (OJK) Wimboh Santoso revealed that the OJK as the regulator has received an explanation from Citi Indonesia.

“In essence, Citibank Indonesia is still waiting for the details of the decision because there are no technical details for the implementation,” said Wimboh. detikcom, Saturday (17/4/2021).

Wimboh said that Citibank Indonesia has committed to always comply with the provisions in Indonesia in following up on this strategic direction.

“The consumer banking business will continue (business as usual) until the direction from the global regarding the time line for closing the consumer banking business is accepted,” said Wimboh.

Wimboh said the OJK has asked Citibank to communicate to all customers, both the corporate / commercial (ICG) and consumer (GCB) segments as well as all stakeholders and other relevant authorities.

The closure of the consumer banking segment did not only occur in Indonesia, but also occurred in 13 other regions including countries including China, India, Australia, Poland and Russia.

Previously, CEO of Citi, Jane Fraser also announced that this year Citi began to focus on running the Global Consumer Bank business in Asia and EMEA in four global wealth centers and left the Consumer Banking business in 13 countries, including Indonesia.

Citi Indonesia ensures that the closure of this segment will not interfere with service to customers.
