Its cathedral, its historic town centre, the Chartres illuminations in lights, the Maison Picassiette, its internationally recognized archaeological center… Chartres attracts foreign and French tourists and new residents and regularly appears in several awards. This time, the Beauceron city appears in the Top 500 Towns and Villages where life is good in France.
The city of Chartres (Eure-et-Loir) stands at the 315th place out of 34,827 municipalities, according to the 2022 winners revealed by the Sunday newspaper. The capital of Eure-et-Loir gains 19 places compared to the last list.
Dreux loses places
At the departmental level, the city-prefecture located one hour from Paris is positioned, unsurprisingly, at the top of the ranking, it is followed by Dreux, sub-prefecture of Eure-et-Loir. The Drouais city lost 36 places in the national ranking compared to last year, arriving 616ᵉ.
On what criteria?
The municipalities that enter this list “offer both quality of life and proximity to services”, explains Thierry Saussez, president of the association of towns and villages where life is good.
This ranking was established according to 187 criteria, including real estate attractiveness, security, local services, facilities, health, shops, education and transport.
