Spain’s 5G coverage continues to increase as operators advance their deployment plans. In addition, the distribution of the last available frequencies in 3.5 GHz and its subsequent rearrangement will be key in the short term to offer a better service. In the medium term, we have the 700 MHz that, although they should be auctioned this March, everything indicates that it will not be until the summer. This uncertainty does not help the operators who, despite this, they go ahead with all the obstacles. In the case of Orange, the French operator already reaches 295 cities in 38 provinces with its 5G network.

The evolution of Orange’s 5G continues. If at the end of the year they had coverage in 93 cities and in January they had coverage in 121 municipalities of 38 provincesNow the figure is already close to 300 Spanish cities. The operator is using 5G NSA at 3.5 GHz (release 15) taking advantage of part of the existing 4G infrastructure. In order to deploy so quickly, 5G NSA DSS (dynamic spectrum sharing) technology is used, which allows 4G LTE and 5G to coexist on the same band.

Orange cities and provinces with 5G coverage

Orange continues to accelerate its 5G deployment plan and today it has informed us that it has 295 cities in 38 provinces with Orange coverage of the fifth generation of mobile telephony. All of them can enjoy the new mobile network of the French company that already reaches 23% population coverage.

In addition to that, we have a deployment forecast for the next few months. Without going any further, Orange expects its new mobile network to reach more than 400 cities by the end of the year, with a coverage of more than 51%. Already facing the year 2022, which should begin the deployment in 700 MHz, the operator will arrive 90% combining NSA and DSS technologies.

Orange will be able to use another 10 MHz that were tendered for the 3.5 GHz spectrum band. In total, the operator has 110 MHz in this band, considered the main one for the deployment of 5G. It is the telecommunications company with the most assigned spectrum. Orange has dedicated a total of 173 million euros to spectrum in total.
