Citézen, bus high level of service will run in 2026

It is a record in the long course, the heated debates, the cold sweats, which is finally on track after six years of gestation. The transit project in its own site (built-in control unit), which will serve the agglomeration Thionville-Fensch, was endorsed Thursday in a meeting of the trade union committee of Smitu (syndicat mixte des transports urbains) in a peaceful atmosphere.

A site 200 M€

Citézen, it is his name, whose work will start in the next few days, is the creation of two lines to a high level of service connecting Hayange in Basse-Ham and Metzange in Yutz passing through the city centre of Thionville and the train station, the nerve center of the cross-border mobility in particular. The commissioning is planned in 2026 with a fleet of 27 electric buses.

This pharaonic achievement will require the construction of two bridges, one spanning the Moselle river and the other railways and the canal, of three park and ride facilities (P + R at Hayange, Basse-Ham and Metzange) and a new site maintenance (Florange).

Seven municipalities in the Thionvillois and Val de Fensch (Hayange, Serémange-Erzange, Florange, Terville, Thionville, Yutz and Low-Ham) will be served by the built-in control unit, which will roll up to the electricity.

“The engine choice 100 % electric has been conditioned to the fact that the european investment bank (EIB), which we follow in the project “, summarizes Roland Balcerzak, vice-president of the Smitu and mayor of Hettange-Grande.

A partner without which the project would not have been able to reach and whose participation amounts to 50 % of the total cost of the built-in control unit 100 of the 200 M€ invested.
