The iPhone 15 Pro’s rumored solid-state volume buttons have been in hot debate, but it seems like the uncertainty is coming to an end. Recent rumors suggest Apple may have canceled the idea, opting for traditional buttons instead. An Apple supplier, Cirrus Logic, revealed in a shareholder letter that a product it had scheduled for introduction in the fall is no longer expected to hit the market as planned. This product pertains to high-performance, mixed-signal, including haptic drivers for Apple’s iPhones. If the solid-state buttons were not canceled, the iPhone 15 Pro would have included two additional Taptic Engines to provide haptic feedback for the faux buttons. While the volume buttons will continue to be of the traditional variety, the new Action button on the phone will replace the ring/mute switch and be fully customizable. Although there is still future potential for solid-state volume buttons, there are looming technical issues to be resolved before mass production can take place.
