(Keystone-SDA) The Young Stage Basel circus festival will take place for the last time in 2025. The management announced this on Thursday. The reason given was the increasing human resources and fundraising, which has grown with the size of the festival.
Because of these tasks, there is less time for innovation and creative cultural work. “We realized that this will no longer make us happy in the long run. That’s why we’re stopping when things are at their best,” festival director Nadja Berger is quoted as saying in the press release.
The increasing success of the Young Stage Festival as a major event has also brought with it increasing challenges – such as the fact that a considerable part of the budget has to be secured through third-party funding each year, it continues. There is no successor for the festival because the requirements profile is high.
No collision with the ESC
The last edition of the artistic festival will take place from May 22 to 25, 2025. If Basel is awarded the Eurovision Song Contest 2025, the Young Stage will be postponed until autumn, it is said. This is due to bottlenecks in hotels and logistics.
The Young Stage Festival took place for the first time in 2007. It offers young and newly trained artists from all over the world the opportunity to perform.
