A selection of summer events saturated with cultural events this week – the contemporary circus festival continues in Riga, the Riga International Biennial of Contemporary Art and a new cultural place of contemporary art are opening their doors, and dance artists are taking walks.

Contemporary circus festival

The weekend of the contemporary circus festival started in Riga and will continue in full swing until Thursday – festival “Re Rīga!”.

You can also experience how the circus team from Spain “Lapso Cirk” challenges the laws of gravity and themselves. Meanwhile, British circus artists “Fauna” will share a performance that is still in its infancy, in which the “magnifying glass” will allow you to see the otherwise seemingly small wonders of the natural world. In turn, the Catalan duo “Amer i Àfrica” ​​in the show for the whole family in 250 kilograms of fresh hay will play on human relationships, surprising with humor and acrobatic skills.

After the festival performances, talks with artists are also expected.

Everything blooms at once

This week, the 2nd Riga International Biennale of Contemporary Art will open its doors.

Andrejosta will have changed beyond recognition, including a large exhibition on the three floors of the former warehouse with the motto “everything blooms at the same time”, which will also become filming area – Adapting to the biggest global challenge of recent times, visitors to the exhibition will be brought in an unprecedented format of the exhibition and will be able to witness the shooting of a feature film.

RIBOCA2 opening week an extensive program of performances, talks, lectures and workshops is expected, which will end on Sunday with RIBOCA2 Family Day. However, the exhibition, in which it will be possible to get acquainted with the projects realized by 65 individual participants and 9 teams, will open in Andrejosta until September 13.

A new home of contemporary art

From August 22, the premises of the former rubber products factory will be housed in Sarkandaugava for two months new contemporary art cultural place “Točka”, which was created with the aim to remind the public that culture is also an integral part of the daily life of a healthy – minded country, offering young artists a place for expression of opinions and philosophical reflections.

The program of “Točka” art events will be opened by an exhibition of more than 70 young artists of the same name, as well as the “Knowledge Bazaar” – an opportunity to meet experts in various fields for ten minutes, find answers to long-standing questions and discover completely new questions. .

Dance artists take a walk

“We don’t know which artist you will meet, what you will talk about, where you will go and what you will experience, but it will definitely not be commonplace.” It is promised by the organizers of Dance Day, offering to go this week “Walk with the artist”.

The visitor does not know what awaits him either – by looking at the walks offered from 17 to 22 August, you can find out the place and time of the events, as well as read a briefly described topic of the walk. Choosing the most interesting of the five topics and applying for a walk is a surprise. The organizers of the walks have allowed themselves to discover that the adventures will be various – from aimless wandering, meeting strangers and running away from dogs to an interview, an open-air master class and changing the urban environment.
