Circular economy, there is a call from ENEA to complete a degree thesis on this topic

ROMA – Poverty essentially means inequality. It is also due to this certainty that more and more initiatives are emerging to promote new awareness regarding the circular economy, considered the first objective for concrete sustainability. In a world where, even today, 836 million people live in conditions of extreme poverty, what is expected of the future is inclusive economic growth. The circular economy, if it truly establishes itself on a global level, will above all create jobs and new businesses, which will have the direct consequences of less pollution, with all the consequences connected to it. In short, it must be noted that by 2050 the global population and the consumption of the rich part of the world will increase, while the available resources will certainly not be infinite.

The competition for the degree thesis. Here then is the joint initiative ofAENEAS e di CONAINational Packaging Consortium – who promoted the opening of registrations for the second edition of the competition for degree thesis, precisely, on the circular economy, precisely to encourage the development of technologies and methods of efficient use and management of resources and to implement technologies on reuse, recycling , recovery and valorisation of packaging waste. Three prizes of 3,000 euros each are up for grabs for three master’s degree theses on topics such as the strategies adopted by companies to promote sustainability and circularity, technological innovation in the sectors of recycling and recovery of materials, and companies’ decarbonisation strategies.

The selection of winners. The three winners will be chosen by a commission made up of experts nominated by CONAI and ENEA. The candidate theses must have been produced between 1 March 2023 and 30 April 2024 and be sent by 3 May 2024, together with the participation form, to the email greenjobs@conai.org. “A new opportunity to promote the development of concrete skills in the field of sustainability”, comments CONAI president, Ignazio Capuano. “The Consortium has always supported and promoted training on issues related to the protection of the Planet, working with primary schools,

high schools and universities. The circular economy, in fact, is a very important branch of our economy and waste management and recycling are complex activities that require increasingly timely and up-to-date training and knowledge.”

A renewed commitment. “This year too ENEA renews its commitment to promoting degree theses on eco-innovation for the closure of production cycles and the recovery of materials from scraps and waste with a view to the circular economy”, declares Claudia Brunori, director of the ENEA department of Sustainability, circularity and adaptation to climate change of production and territorial systems. “Topics like these become focal points for university students, especially in view of their entry into the world of work”.
