Circle of political correctness

Currently, there is a relaxed air of political correctness around the world, which has emerged during the post-COVID-19 pandemic, the latest post-Brexit and Nearshoring era driven by division. the world between 7 and 9 regions defined by the conservative thinker, Samuel P. Huntington (1927-2008) and the Ultra-Right New World Order of Donald Trump, Jair Bolsonaro, Javier Milei, Marine Le Pen, etc., a situation that has led to the Genocide in Gaza and the War in Ukraine within the framework of the Trade War between the US and China.

Relative to Cancel Culture, Political Correctness has had a privileged position in the art ecosystem, as it is particularly evident in the painting market, the main control of the art trade. The rise of political correctness in painting goes from the Zombie Formalism of painters like “Christian Rosa, David Ostrowski, Oscar Murillo, Lucien Smith”, etc. (See Artgenetic 11 July 2020) – in Mexico we have a late Zombie Formalist like Marcos Castro – and even painting where there is “emotional feeling, nostalgia, intimate and post-historical intuition” of painters like Nicole Eisenman or Dana Schutz ( see Artgenetic 07Nov2020 ).

The “fixed commercial rise” in post-historical painting is rooted in positions without socio-political commitment, shameless decoration, predictable and repetitive aesthetics and formal formulas that constitute not a canon beauty, but a commercial tool, a circle of political correctness that as long as it continues Being a profitable business, it will keep innovative and committed art on the side. Could the current global projection of Teresa Margolles be achieved in 2024 if this artist was 25 years old now and starting her work and career?; I highly doubt that the political correctness of world art would prevent it, an oppressive turn that was evident when the OMR Gallery stopped exhibiting Manuel Ocampo 23 years ago to opt for accessible, beautiful and politically correct painting.
