The real “battle” from PSD Congresswhere the re-election of the party president seems to be a mere formality, it will be held for 16 positions of vice president and two positions of first vice president.

Representatives of the PSD Congress on August 24 will vote for the new leadership electronically, for the first time in history, from their mobile phone, based on a QR code. The prime minister and leader of the party, Marcel Ciolacu, is the only candidate, and it is likely that Paul Stănescu (PSD Olt) will continue in the post of general secretary of the PSD.

A change is expected at the head of the National Council, which is currently held by Vasile Dîncu (PSD Cluj) and for which the former prime minister Mihai Tudose (PSD Braila) submitted his application. As a “reward of sympathy”, Vasile Dîncu would receive the position of PSD vice-president in the field of European Affairs, party sources tell Știripesurse.ro.

Another change that is almost certain is that Titus Corlățean lost the position of PSD vice-president for the South region, Corneliu Ștefan, the head of the CJ Dâmbovița, was elected instead. Sources from the party told Știripesurse.ro, however, that Corlățean will still participate in PSD BPN meetings, but without the right to vote, as he will be appointed PSD responsible for the Republic of Moldova.

Who has the first chance

For the positions of PSD first vice-president, the candidates are the Minister of Transport, Sorin Grindeanu (PSD Timiș), Gabriela Firea (PSD Bucharest) and Daniel Băluță (PSD Region 4). If it can be said that Grindeanu has no feelings, Firea and Băluță are fighting shoulder to shoulder for the remaining place. The winner will be the first vice-president of PSD, and the loser will receive as a “silver medal” the position of vice-president of PSD in the Bucharest-Ilfov region.

On the list of vice-presidents with whom Marcel Ciolacu will appear before Congress, sources from the PSD seem to include: Radu Moldovan (Bistrita Năsăud) as vice-president for a region North West, Claudiu Manda (Dolj) as vice-president. president of the South West region, Gabriel Zetea (Maramureș) – vice president for Public Administration and Lia Olguța Vasilescu (Dolj) – vice president for Work.

With the question mark

The leader of PSD Gorj, Mihai Weber, is among those who want a place as vice president, and the Minister of Health, Alexandru Rafila, is trying to get the position of vice president in the field of Health.

One of the party’s young hopes, the head of the CJ Suceava, Gheorghe Șoldan (33 years old), could also be co-elected in the PSD leadership as vice-president of economy or regional development, according to party sources. In this case, Șoldan will be awarded after defeating the powerful Gheorghe Flutur in the local elections, one of the biggest surprises of the election summer.
