The merger between the industry giants CinemaxX and CineStar, which has been advancing for months, has burst.

The Federal Cartel Office had approved the merger of the cinema chains CinemaxX and CineStar on the condition that cinemas at six different locations had to be sold to other operators beforehand. This would also have included the Remscheid cinema, which will now continue to be operated under the umbrella of the CineStar brand.

All cinemas are currently closed due to the corona pandemic.
