IN THE UFFIZI
Two million visitors visit the UFZI gallery in Florence every year: the most important collection of Renaissance art in one of the oldest museums in the world. Since 2015, the Uffizi Gallery has been managed by Eike Schmidt, a charismatic and pugnacious cultural manager, driven by his intoxicating love of art and the challenge of presenting art in an ever-changing light and making it tangible.
Corinna Belz (German Film Prize for GERHARD RICHTER PAINTING) and Enrique Sánchez Lansch (RHYTHM IS IT!) enable us to immerse ourselves in the world of the Uffizi in a way that can be experienced with the senses. Again and again the camera (including Thomas Riedelsheimer, German Film Prize for RIVERS AND TIDES) dives into the beguiling visual world of the Uffizi, into an immense abundance of beauty that has survived countless changes of power, two world wars and epidemics. In its attentive and clever observation and montage, the film draws us into the quiet maelstrom of its narrative and worlds.
In the end, you leave the cinema with the happy certainty of having understood a little more of the secret of art: a film that will make the hearts of film-loving art lovers beat faster.
