Cancún (Mexico), April 20 (EFE).- Cinema is “something that unites us all,” Madrid City Council Tourism Councilor Almudena Maíllo told EFE, referring to the Ibero-American region, before gala. the inauguration of the eleventh edition of the Platino Xcaret Awards 2024 in Mexico.
Maíllo pointed out that Madrid has been investing in the Platinum Awards for a long time because he believes that promotion and public-private union are important to have quality Latin American cinema.
In that sense, he asked that there must be pride in these productions and that is why Madrid joins the cinematographic recognition. In addition, he pointed out that since it is a city with a strategic location, the number of filming series and feature films has doubled since the end of the pandemic.
In this regard, the official explained that the City Council has the Madrid Film Office, a place that tries to join audiovisual production from the beginning, that is, from finding locations to the management of the entire production.
“We also have support and tax benefits for feature films and upcoming productions and filming in Madrid, as well as subsidies that are given every year for local productions that are filmed in the city,” he said.
Cinema as a tourism opportunity
For the consultant, cinema is also an opportunity for tourism in the Spanish capital because it ensures that the city can be shown in a different way from the big screen.
So, while living in the Riviera Maya, home of the Platino Awards, Maíllo said that Mexico has gone from being the sixth country from which the capital of Madrid receives the largest number of visitors. trips to the quarter, with nearly 20,000 people traveling each week.
