Cinema tour: “urgewald – On the trail of money”

Protect the Planet supports the cinema release of the urgewald documentary

The new documentary film to mark the 30th anniversary of the environmental and human rights organisation urgewald will be released in October 2024. Protect the Planet is supporting the theatrical release together with the Dorothea-Laura-Janina Sick Environmental Foundation and the Schönau Power Plant: Together with urgewald and the film distributor W-Movie We are accompanying the film with a cinema tour throughout Germany, with prominent talk panels from the environmental scene and numerous local supporters in five cities.

About the film

Destruction of nature and disregard for human rights – behind these are often large corporations and banks that also use our money. For over 30 years, urgewald has been uncovering such financial flows and resisting destruction and displacement. Protect the Planet founder Dorothea Sick-Thies has been following urgewald’s work for years and emphasizes:

“In my opinion, urgewald is one of the most successful organizations in the environmental field because they take on the big players: the banks. urgewald shows how much money is still being put into fossil fuels, fossil fuels that are ultimately destroying our earth. This must finally stop,” says Dorothea Sick-Thies.

urgewald has prevented forced resettlements, blocked cluster munitions loans and stopped the construction of a nuclear power plant: The documentary film by Peter and Karin Wejdling tells the story of the small association that became an influential organization – an advocate for the environment and human rights. It looks back over the past decades and shows how a small association became an influential organization that has long since respected as a critical voice in the executive suites of the financial industry and heard. In addition to the founders and team members of urgewald, the film also features financial insiders, activists and politicians such as Claudia Kemfert, Luisa Neubauer and Jürgen Trittin to speak.
