In view of “the progress in vaccination and the falling number of infections”, the entire cinema industry is ready, according to a statement from among others HDF Kino and AG Kino.

Nationwide, the film theaters have been closed for more than half a year due to the pandemic. In Berlin, the first open-air cinemas are now opening subject to certain conditions.

The operators hope to be able to show films inside again soon. That also depends on the number of infections and the regulations of the federal states.

Many cinema operators are preparing for a start on July 1st, individual houses could open earlier. The associations appeal to the federal states to “enable the cinemas to open on this date and to communicate promptly”.

Even if cinemas could theoretically open in some places, it is sometimes not worthwhile in the opinion of the associations.

“Only if all cinemas nationwide have the chance to open together promptly can distributors even start new films and thus restore the economic basis of the film theaters,” says the statement made by the German Press Agency.
