In autumn, the season traditionally begins with the awarding of cinema programme prizes in the federal states. Yesterday it was time in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. A total of 31 cinemas were awarded the state’s cinema culture prizes by Culture Minister Bettina Martin (SPD) in Parchim. The main prizes went to Neubrandenburg and Neustrelitz.
The top prize for commercial cinemas, worth 10,000 euros, went to the Fabrik Kino in Neustrelitz. The cinema in the Alte Kachelofenfabrik was honored for the best annual program in 2023. The top prize winner in the non-commercial cinemas category is the Kino Latücht in Neubrandenburg. The team was delighted to receive a bonus of 4,000 euros. “With the state’s cinema culture award, we honor exceptional, sophisticated and particularly well-thought-out cinema programs,” explained Culture Minister Martin. A further 17 non-commercial and 12 commercial cinemas in the state were honored in this sense.
There were two second prizes for cinemas from West Mecklenburg. 7,000 euros each went to the Luna Filmtheater in Ludwigslust and to the Kino Boizenburg. The prize money will be used to give children and young people the opportunity to make their own films, said Sara Puchert from the Kino Boizenburg. The makers of the Wundervoll cinema in Rostock also received 7,000 euros.
