In the cinema “Kino bize” with the movie “Kassandras kačis” or “The Cassandra Cat”, the evenings of cinema classics will resume, LETA agency was informed in the cinema.
The latest season of cinema classic evenings will be dedicated to Czechoslovakia’s new wave in the 1960s of the last century. In the introduction of the five-film program, from January 26 to January 28, director Vojteh Jasnij’s 1963 comic fantasy journey “Cassandra’s Cat” will be screened in three screenings. On Saturday, January 27, before the screening – at 18:00 – opening remarks by film critic Kristīne Simsones are planned.
Ahead of its time, experimenting with stylized colors and extended political metaphors, “Cassandra’s Cat” is directed by Jasny’s satire, exposing real-life social contradictions and hypocrisy.
The film tells the story of a magician who arrives in a small village with an assistant and a magical cat that can detect people in their true colors. Uncovering the secrets and lies of the residents, riots begin in the village. School principal Karel organizes a hunt to shoot the cat and turn it into a stuffed animal.
The movie “Cassandra’s Cat” can be seen in the cinema “Kino bize” in three screenings: Friday, January 27, at 7 p.m., Saturday, January 27, at 6 p.m. with introductions by film critic Simsones. The final screening of the film will take place on Sunday, January 28, at 6 p.m.
The program of the latest season of cinema classic evenings will consist of five films. Each month, one of the films will be screened in three screenings with subtitles in Latvian and English.
In the continuation of the program, from February 23 to February 25, the 1968 film “Jokes” or “The Joke” by director Jaromil Jireš will be shown in the “Kino bize” cinema.
The project is supported by the State Cultural Capital Fund and the Czech Embassy in Riga. Tickets can be purchased on the spot at the cinema or in advance.
