Cinema as a place of learning and experience: NRW School Film Weeks 2023 will take place from the end of January – registration now possible | Spokenkieker

Returning to the usual date on the annual calendar, the North Rhine-Westphalia School Film Weeks will take place from 26 January to 8 February 2023. 112 cinemas in NRW are involved in the largest film education project in the state. Around 100 films are scheduled, all with specific references to curricula, each with detailed educational material that can be downloaded free of charge. Registration for the 16th NRW School Cinema Weeks, organized by “Vision Cinema – Network for Film and Media Competence” and “Film+School NRW”, a joint initiative of the Westphalia-Lippe Regional Association (LWL) and the NRW Ministry of Education is now available on the website http://www.schulkinowochen.nrw.de possible. Numerous films are available for teaching foreign languages ​​in the original language or with subtitles. Discussions with filmmakers or experts on the Year of Science 2023 with the theme “Our Universe” and the special program “17 Goals – Cinema for a Better World” as well as film seminars and film analysis trainings in the classroom round out the program. A special series on “Growing Up in Ukraine” showcases cinematic perspectives from the country.

In line with the long-standing motto of the NRW School Cinema Weeks – “Living together. see. learn.” the film selection places special emphasis on films on social issues, especially on the aspects of climate protection and responsible use of social media. Furthermore, a central concern of the NRW School Cinema Weeks is to make cinema an alternative place of learning and to convey a different cinematic aesthetic. “Cinema confronts us, questions us and sometimes leaves us perplexed. It is a lively place for discussion and fosters the important capacity for self-reflection, tolerance and curiosity, which we urgently need in a free and open society,” says Leopold Grün, managing director of “Vision Cinema – Network for Film and Media Competence” .

The reduced admission price for film screenings is 4 euros, teachers and accompanying persons have free admission. In 2023, schoolchildren can once again participate in a film criticism competition of spinxx.de, the online magazine for young media critics, and win prizes for the whole school class.
