Chronicles of the Vespers

The story of maturity meets the dark science fiction fairytale Chronicles of the Vespers.

Jonah: “What are you doing here? Vespers? What are you doing on my farm?”
Vespers: “We want to get what you owe us for blood.”

Vesper, 13, lives in a dystopian world. Animals and plants have been wiped out by genetically modified viruses. While the elite live in technological splendor in cities called citadels, the rest of humanity struggles to survive in the muddy wasteland. The teenager hopes for a better future, for himself and for his paralyzed father. Chronicles of the Vespers is an intoxicating audiovisual film between post-apocalypse and vision of the future – and a great science fiction story about growing up. At Cinema. In a country that no longer exists

It’s about the fashion scene in the GDR In a country that no longer exists.

Kerstin: “What should it?”
Suzie: “Hmm? Is it me ?!”
Kerstin: “And how did you get to Sybille?”
Suzie: “Show me. I was on the tram and then there was a man like that.”
Kerstin: “Yes, exactly. Sit on the tram and you will come to Sybille.”

Even though her little sister doesn’t believe it, that’s what happened to Suzie. It is a stroke of luck for the young woman: shortly before her, she was expelled from school due to a patch and she had to forget her dream of studying. Instead of engaging in production in the GDR, you have the opportunity to lead a model life in the socialist state. In a country that no longer exists is dedicated to the fashion scene in the GDR, which has never been shown before – and how it is caught between creative development and ideology. For director Aelrun Goette it is also a piece of biopic: she experienced something similar in the 1980s on the streets of East Berlin. Now in cinemas. (Theatrical release: 6.10.2022)

The widescreen panorama was first broadcast on 6 October 2022 in the FluxFM program.
