The legendary Montreux Jazz Festival will arrive in Miami for the first time on March 2, and Cuban artist Cimafunk made his way as one of the guests who will perform on its prestigious stage.
The festival, originally from Switzerland, has grown exponentially over six decades, with a musical diversity that has welcomed big names in jazz and related genres, such as blues, soul and rock.
The news is great for the ‘City of the Sun’, which joins other important metropolises such as São Paulo and Tokyo in becoming host of this annual event.
The first day will feature performances by five-time Grammy winner Jon Batiste and other notable artists such as Cécile McLorin Salvant and Daniela Mercury, known as the Queen of Axé.
On the second day, Seu Jorge, the Cuban Cimafunk, and Adrian Cota & The Winston House Band will perform, who will become the stars of the night, news that represents wonders for the Cuban’s career.
For the third day, the festival will be headlined by Daryl Hall, a member of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, along with Emily Estefan, the daughter of Gloria and Emilio Estefan, and the only other artist of Cuban descent in the show.
The Festival will offer poolside jam sessions and a selection of culinary delights, as well as VIP experiences with expedited entry and exclusive access to special events.
With a maximum capacity of 1,500 guests per night, organizers recommend purchasing tickets in advance, and remember that single-day, multi-day and Legendary Jam packages are being offered for the entire duration of the festival.
What is the Montreux Jazz Festival?
The Montreux Jazz Festival was founded in 1967 by Claude Nobs, a jazz enthusiast better known as “Funky Claude,” with the idea of livening up his beautiful but quiet hometown.
The musician directed the festival for six decades, during which time it grew and expanded to bring together not only exclusive jazz musicians, but a range of related genres such as soul, blues and R&B.
Great legends of international music such as Miles Davis, Nina Simone, Ella Fitzgerald, Aretha Franklin, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, among others, made their first appearances at this festival.
In more recent years, artists such as Leonard Cohen, Bob Dylan, Sigur Rós, and Radiohead have appeared, so Cimafunk’s participation represents a really important boost for his career internationally and especially in the Anglo-Saxon market.
