Jasper Cillessen has been passed by national coach Ronald Koeman for the final round of the Nations League, which will be held in the Netherlands next month. This will be apparent from the final selection on Monday.
Koeman prefers Justin Bijlow (Feyenoord), Mark Flek (SC Freiburg) and Andries Noppert (SC Heerenveen). Noppert, who was the first goalkeeper at the last World Cup in Qatar, played his first game on Sunday after a lingering groin injury.
The bad message from Koeman is a hard blow for 65-time international Cillessen. The 34-year-old goalkeeper of NEC was still under the crossbar in March at the European Championship qualifiers against France (4-0 defeat) and Gibraltar (3-0 win), although he did not make a convincing impression. He has also been downright unhappy at NEC in recent months.
Tijjani Reijnders, on the other hand, has been called up for the Dutch national team for the first time in his career. The 24-year-old midfielder is having a strong season at AZ. Last season he was still a regular bench seat at the Alkmaarders.
In addition to the absence of Cillessen, the absence of keeper Bart Verbruggen, Stefan de Vrij, Davy Klaassen, Steven Berghuis and Brian Brobbey is notable. Klaassen, Berghuis and Brobbey had a disastrous season with Ajax. After Sunday’s defeat against FC Twente, the club finished outside the top two for the first time since 2009. Afterwards, Berghuis also slapped a bystander at the player bus.

Netherlands-Croatia on June 14
Brand new national champion Feyenoord is the purveyor of the Orange selection with three internationals (Bijlow, Lutsharel Geertruida and Mats Wieffer). That is one more than competitors Ajax (Jurriën Timber and Steven Bergwijn) and PSV (Joey Veerman and Xavi Simons).
The Orange will play against Croatia in De Kuip on June 14 in the semi-finals of the Nations League. With a victory over the number three of the last World Cup in Qatar, the Netherlands will face Italy or Spain four days later, who will face each other in the other semi-final on June 15. The final will also be played in De Kuip.
The internationals without club obligations will meet next Monday for a three-day training internship in Zeist. That’s 16 of the 26. The full selection will be together on Saturday 10 June.
Only Denzel Dumfries (Internazionale) and Nathan Aké (Manchester City) will then be missing. They will play the final of the Champions League in Istanbul on that day and will join later. Inter player De Vrij also plays in the final battle, but has not been called up.
