Cigéo robots to discover for the Science Festival

As part of the Science Festival, the public is invited to discover the robots that will be used in the Cigéo nuclear waste storage, Saturday October 12 and Sunday October 13, at the Andra Technological Space, in Saudron.

“Hello, my name is Pepper and I will be your guide for this tour. » Saturday October 12 and Sunday October 13, it is not by Andra agents that the public will be welcomed at Saudron Technology Spacebut by a small humanoid robot equipped with artificial intelligence which allows it to answer questions from the public.

Robots where humans cannot go

As part of the Science Festival, Andra is offering visitors the opportunity to discover the robots that will be used in the future Cigéo nuclear waste burial center. Pepper will thus be able to present Cigéfix (already visible during the Cires open house on September 15), a robot dog which, equipped with sensors, will be able to carry out various measurements and checks in inaccessible areas of the storage.

Sam will also be there. This small robot, less visually spectacular, will be able to enter the storage cells for high-level waste, where the packages release a level of deadly radioactivity in just a few tens of seconds. Other robots, designed, developed and tested by Andra, will also be visible in the Technology Space hall.

Coding, 3D printing, exhibition and virtual reality

For the youngest, this Science Festival will be an opportunity to participate in various fun and creative workshops around robotics and coding or 3D printing. Of course, the “Cigéo, above/under” exhibition is still to be discovered and virtual reality headsets will allow you to wander through the galleries of the Bure underground laboratory.

Finally, a documentary film on Isaac Asimov, considered the father of modern robotics, will be broadcast at 3 p.m. and 4:30 p.m., and the UIMM Magical Industry Tour will be present to introduce modern machining techniques, welding or automated production.
