Cienfuegos hearing suspended in New York; they assure that reporters did not silence devices

The general’s audience Salvador Cienfuegos in New York was suspended this Thursday because some reporters did not follow the instructions of the judge of the Eastern Court of New York, Carol Bagley Amon, to silence and disconnect their devices, assured the journalist Dolia Estevez.

“There will be no real-time information on the Cienfuegos audience. They did the same with García Luna. We all pay the consequences. Thanks spoilers“He posted on his Twitter account.

The judge ordered that the session be held later, only this time behind closed doors. The recording will be delivered later, he detailed.

At the beginning of the session, the judge alerted the representatives of the media to keep their mobile phones without sound and warned that the session could be suspended due to any interruption.

During the few minutes that the public session lasted, the voice of General Cienfuegos was heard briefly.

“I need a little more volume,” the general told Judge Amon, who asked a guard to assist the Mexican and warned him that he has to listen carefully to what is said in the session. “Yes, sir,” Cienfuegos replied.

The little that could be heard was that the Judge rejected the request made by Cienfuegos attorneys, led by Richard Levitt and Nicholas Kaizer, to postpone the hearing.

Among the Cienfuegos lawyers is also Edward V. Sapone, of the firm Sapone & Petrillo, who defended a high-profile implicated in the case of the sex sect NXIVM.

When the first minutes of the session passed, the judge warned that an echo was heard in the telephone call to which the American and Mexican reporters, mainly, were connected.

The former head of the Ministry of National Defense is imprisoned in el Metropolitan Detention Center de Brooklyn, a high security prison.

Prosecutors in the United States accuse him of illicit association to distribute and import drugs and money laundering.

They point out that Cienfuegos, 72, helped the ‘H-2’ cartel while he was in charge of the armed forces from 2012 to 2018, during the government of then-President Enrique Peña Nieto.

The indictment against Cienfuegos comes from the federal court for the eastern district of New York, located in Brooklyn. For this reason the general was transferred from Los Angeles to New York.
