Cienfuegos hearing suspended in New York; they assure that reporters did not silence devices

At the beginning of the session, the judge alerted the representatives of the media to keep their mobile phones without sound and warned that the session could be suspended due to any interruption.

During the few minutes that the public session lasted, the voice of General Cienfuegos was heard briefly.

Prosecutors in the United States accuse him of illicit association to distribute and import drugs and money laundering.

They point out that Cienfuegos, 72, helped the ‘H-2’ cartel while he was in charge of the armed forces from 2012 to 2018, during the government of then-President Enrique Peña Nieto.

The indictment against Cienfuegos comes from the federal court for the eastern district of New York, located in Brooklyn. For this reason the general was transferred from Los Angeles to New York.
