Ciara storm: Boeing 747 breaks Atlantic crossing record

2020-02-09T16: 58: 23.342Z

More than 1 hour in advance. A Boeing 747-400 that operated between New York (JFK) and London (Heathrow) linked the two cities at an average of 1100 km / h last night. The aircraft took 4.56 hours to cross 5554 km instead of … 6.13. It was driven by a very powerful “Jet stream”, this high altitude air current which brings disturbances to European coasts – in particular the Ciara storm – and also, by the way, a temperate climate in our latitudes.

The previous record on this route was established by a Boeing 787 of Norwegian in January 2018 with a flight made in 5:13, indicates the site Flightradar24 who spotted this atypical crossing.

  1. Es ist NICHT schneller als der Schall(Schall wäre 343,2 m/s aber das Flugzeug hatte die Maximalgeschwindigkeit von 338,32846 m/s).
