CIA Director and Israeli Counterpart to Meet Qatari Officials for Potential Gaza Hostage Deal and Ceasefire Talks
In a significant development, the director of the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA), William Burns, and the head of Israel’s Mossad intelligence service, David Barnea, are set to meet Qatari officials in Europe for talks on a potential Gaza hostage deal and a pause in fighting. The meeting, which will include Qatari prime minister and foreign minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, aims to find a resolution to the ongoing conflict between Israel and Hamas.
The Biden administration has been actively involved in facilitating the release of over 100 remaining hostages taken during Hamas’ attacks on Israel in October. The attacks resulted in the deaths of approximately 1,200 people, mostly civilians, and triggered the war in Gaza.
