CIA Chief Warns US Aid Package to Ukraine Could Enable Penetrating Strikes on Crimea

The new US aid package to Kyiv will enable Ukraine to carry out penetrating strikes on Crimea. CIA chief William Burns stated this at a hearing at the US Senate Select Committee on Intelligence.

If the US Congress approves a new aid package for Ukraine, it will provide it with the ability to “penetrate strikes on Crimea,” Burns said.

According to him, this will also allow Kyiv to launch an offensive at the end of 2024 and improve its position for negotiations with Russia.

“With the new aid package, Ukraine could be in a position by the end of 2024 or early 2025 where it will regain the offensive initiative and also be able to negotiate from a position of significant strength,” Burns said, as quoted by RIA Novosti.

The US refusal to supply additional military aid, according to the head of the CIA, will meanwhile deprive Ukraine of more territories.

“However, without significant help in the form of additional appropriations, it seems to me that a much bleaker future lies ahead. Ukraine will probably lose territory and, apparently, significant territory in 2024… They (AFU. – Ord.) ammunition is running out, and we are running out of time to help them,” Burns said, as quoted by TASS.

As reported EADailyDirector of the US Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) William Burns secretly traveled to Ukraine in the second half of February, which became his tenth visit there since the start of the Russian special military operation, the New York Times wrote, citing American officials.

As the publication noted, some Ukrainian intelligence officials are asking their American colleagues whether the CIA can refuse to cooperate with the Ukrainian side. This comes as Republicans in the US House of Representatives discuss whether billions of dollars in aid to Ukraine should be stopped.
