The famous Churchill Downs racetrack in Louisville, USA will stop operations after this weekend. The reason is the death of twelve horses on the local track in the past month.
The company that operates the racetrack announced Friday that racing will still take place at Churchill Downs as scheduled this weekend.
The next program through July 3 moves to Ellis Park in Henderson, also in Kentucky.
Racecourse management have not yet established what is behind the sudden increase in horse deaths during an investigation with the Racing Board and the Racing Safety Authority.
According to published expertise, the surface at Churchill Downs, which is the venue of the famous Kentucky Derby, does not show any flaws or differences from previous years.
A similar case was dealt with three years ago at the Santa Anita racetrack in California, where 42 horses lost their lives within fourteen months.
