To the Commemorating the anniversary of Johann Sebastian Bach’s death (1685-1750) on July 28, 1750 traditionally invites the Frankfurt Epiphany to a festive organ concert am Thursday, July 28, 2022 at 7:00 p.m. in the Dreikönigskirche on the banks of the Main in Sachsenhausen.

Dreikönigskantor Andreas Köhs will perform a brilliant program on the Schuke organ of the Dreikönigskirche, one of the most beautiful-sounding instruments in the Rhine-Main area, which is particularly well suited for baroque organ music.

He has his concert program under the motto „Johann Sebastian Bach in Leipzig“ and will play selected major organ works by Bach from this creative period (1723-1750).

The highlights are the preludes and fugues in A minor and E minor, BWV 543 and BWV 548. In addition, there are three selected chorale preludes from the so-called Eighteen Leipzig Chorales (BWV 651-668), a representative selection: “Schmücke dich, oliebe Seele”, “Allein Gott in der Höh sei Ehr” and “Komm, Gott Creator, Holy Spirit”. large-scale chorale arrangements that Bach put together in the last decade of his life as Leipzig Thomaskantor, after extensive revisions and changes.

Finally, the introduction and passacaglia in D minor (without opus) by the brilliant composer and organist as well as a great admirer of Bach are heard Max Reger (1873-1916), a work composed in 1899 for the “Schöneberger Orgelalbum”, which has since enjoyed great popularity as further evidence of Reger’s extraordinary organ artistry.
