Freiburg (dpa/lsw) – The archdiocese of Freiburg has relieved a religious from office with immediate effect. The archdiocese announced it on Sunday. In agreement with the leadership of the order, the chaplain was relieved of his duties with immediate effect. The reason is “the accusation of sexual violence against an adult in need of protection abroad”. It was not disclosed where the alleged assault took place. The charges would now be heard in the country of the crime scene by the local prosecutor and the local church court, he said. The diocese stressed that the presumption of innocence applies until the allegations are clarified.
