Freiburg (dpa / lsw) – Due to the energy crisis, the archdiocese of Freiburg has recommended limiting the temperature in a church to ten degrees Celsius during use this winter. Parishes should also pay attention to frost protection and optimum humidity in places of worship, the Archiepiscopal Ordinariate in Freiburg announced Wednesday.
Savings recommendations are not just about cost cutting. “For us, as the Catholic Church, it is important to send a sign of solidarity in society,” said Vicar General Christoph Neubrand, according to a statement. The archdiocese has long been committed to the fight against climate change and pursues the goal of climate neutrality.
The Archdiocese of Freiburg encompasses a large area from the Odenwald in the north through the Upper Rhine plain and the Black Forest to the Upper Rhine and Lake Constance. According to the archdiocese, over 1.8 million Catholics live in the area.
