President Luis Abinader led this Friday the act in which Francisco Ozoria, metropolitan archbishop of the Archdiocese of Santo Domingo, signed the document with which the church gave way to the state about 1,400,000 square meters.
Rafael Burgos, director of National Assets and the State Sugar Council (CEA), said that Pope Francis would have agreed with the decision.
“On behalf of the municipality of The victory and from Santo Domingo we thank his most reverend eminence, Ozoria, also representing Pope Francis, who has given consent for this process to be carried out to all the citizens of The victory“, he claimed.
Ozoria referred to the agreement, although no details were given about its conditions and the transaction was presented as a donation.
“Every family deserves to have a home, a house. But that house is in a ground own and this is what we want to do here. The President has made the decision to holder to the families of La Victoria on their own land and church, which was holder of the titles of these lands, he has given up, he has donated these lands,” said the bishop.
They agreed
Abinader said that when he found out that those lands belonged to the church, he contacted them and asked for the transfer.
“Knowing the social and humanistic sense of our church, we immediately approached, through his lawyer, and spoke with Monsignor Ozoria… and Monsignor Ozoria said: ‘We are and have always been available. What we do not have are the resources to transfer them,'” the president said.
He assured that the religious said yes from the first moment.
Abinader also reported that, in the area in question, there is the same La Victoria prison.
The head of state referred to The victory as municipality. On January 10, the Senate approved the law that elevates the municipality to The victory. All that remains is for the president to promulgate it.
