The Catholic Church held a solemn Mass on Tuesday, August 6, in front of the Metropolitan Cathedral of San Salvador, as the culmination of the patron saint festivities. The Archbishop of San Salvador, José Luis Escobar Alas, presided over the mass and urged the country to transform.

The mass closed the patron saint festivities of El Salvador. The archbishop was accompanied by Cardinal Gregorio Rosa Chávez and the apostolic nuncio, Monsignor Luigi Roberto Cona.

Alas urged to change history for the poor and oppressed. He also asked to fight for the “transfiguration of our country, according to the will of God.” This, taking into account that El Salvador “is a martyrial country,” since through those men and women who believed in Jesus, society has been transformed, demonstrating that the death of the martyrs does not represent a failure but quite the opposite.

The Archbishop of San Salvador called on the people to unite and asked the wealthy and the rulers not to occupy the poor for their own benefit.
