Chung-Ang University’s ‘Geumssaragi’ has launched a new product ‘Baby Rice Niacinamide Tone-Up Pad’ at Wadiz.
Geumssaragi, a company located in the Chung-Ang University Campus Town, started with the slogan, ‘Make discarded ssaragi as valuable as gold.’ Those who started out dreaming of ‘a world where everyone’s efforts shine’ pay attention to ‘ssass’. The goal is to solve the problem of economic loss and resource waste for farmers caused by ‘ssaragi’, broken rice discarded during the milling process.
‘Ssaragi’ is rice that is smaller than regular white rice, and is not recognized as marketable due to its small size, so it is not on the dinner table. Most provincial products are stored or disposed of, and provincial products, including snail, not only waste resources but also generate a disposal cost of 200 billion won per year due to the lack of ways to utilize them. Accordingly, Geumssaragi paid attention to the need for upcycling of Ssaragi, which had become a problem due to lack of ways to utilize it.
Starting in 2021, Geumssaragi is selling Baby Rice Cleansing Bar and Baby Rice Soap Powder, which rediscovered the unique value of Ssaragi. Last year, through the crowdfunding site Wadiz, the company launched ‘Baby Rice Pure Setting Pact’, which focuses on the oil-absorbing effect of snail starch particles, and achieved a successful funding rate of 314%. Then, with part of the proceeds, they purchased new rice from collaborative farms and donated it to the Dongjak Welfare Foundation. On the 5th, the new product ‘Baby Rice Niacinamide Tone-Up Pad’ was launched.
Baby Rice Niacinamide Tone-Up Pad contains the excellent ingredients of ssaragi, such as crude protein, gamma oryzanol, vitamins, and potassium, in a toner pad. It contains niacinamide, a whitening ingredient notified by the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety that has been tested by KCL (Korea Institute of Construction and Living Environment), making the skin clearer along with the rich nutrients of snail extract. It is a product that even consumers with sensitive skin can use with confidence as it has received an EWG ALL green rating, excluding unnecessary harmful ingredients. It also helps with overall skin care, including improving skin texture, moisture care, and skin soothing.
In addition, it is noteworthy that zero-waste packaging has been implemented for new products. Environmental pollution is reduced by using eco-friendly pad fabric that easily dissolves in water. A major feature is that the environment is considered throughout the entire product manufacturing process by using paper packaging that reduces resource consumption and an easily removable moisture separation label.
Jin-kyung Kang, CEO of Geumssaragi, said, “I hope that we will create a society where each person’s unique value can shine like the products of Geumssaragi that are reborn by giving value to ssaragi,” adding, “The rice donation activities after each funding period will revitalize stagnant domestic farms.” “I hope to get it back,” he said.
The funding for Geumssaragi’s ‘Baby Rice Niacinamide Tone Up Pad’ is ‘Baby Rice It has been running at Wadiz since November 5 under the title ‘Golden Ssaragi Toner Pad’.
