Until June 15, Russian actress Čulpana Hamatova is living in great excitement – her new monograph “Post Scriptum” is being made at the New Riga Theater. This is her first production in JRT and it is extremely complicated. For now, she will play in Russian. But learning Latvian is the plan for this summer. The actress says – she plans to speak Latvian fluently already at the end of the summer.
Hamatova announced on March 20 the decision to leave Russia with her three daughters and move to Latvia In a video interview published on Youtube for journalist Katerina Gordeeva.
Most recently, rumors began to appear in the Russian media that Hamatov was disappointed in his decision to leave Russia, but Latvia was disappointed. Here she has no means of subsistence and is constantly demanding to prove her loyalty to the state. It was also claimed that the actress would like to return to Russia, but fears that she will not be taken back.
In addition, there was an “interview” with Ivars Kalniņš (the true opinion of the Latvian actor in conversation with “Delphi” here), in which he allegedly condemned Chulpan Hamatov for treason. “I don’t understand who is spreading these rumors and why? What is their idea and reason?” in an interview with “Delphi” the actress expresses confusion.
At one time, together with journalist Katerina Gordejev, you bought a property in Amatciems near Cēsis. However, working in a theater requires a permanent stay in Riga. Is this possible with the salary that is in the theater?
I have an apartment for rent in Riga. The children go to school, but I go to work. Everything is fine with everyday life, so that no one worries. My wonderful friends help me a lot here. In addition, I really do earn a decent job in Russia. And when it all started to close, I managed to take it out and keep it. I also have my own independent commercial projects – I read poetry with musicians. They will continue with those artists who live in Europe. I can speak to the Russian community in any country in the world.
Recently, together with pianist Andrei Osokin, we organized a charity concert to raise money for Ukrainian refugees. Poetry is my element. I love it very much. And I’m happy that it’s not only my inner joy, but also the audience likes it.
After your spontaneous performance at Gidon Kremer’s concert at the Latvian National Opera, speeches were given as to why poetry in Russian is heard at the event dedicated to Ukraine.
