Chuck Schumer Visits Ukraine: Promises Military Support Amid Russian Aggression

Chuck Schumer, the majority leader in the US Senate, recently visited Ukraine. Following the visit, he spoke about military support for Kyiv from the United States.

In a country that is resisting Russian aggression, Schumer assured Ukrainians that the United States would not abandon them. He also believes that 2024 will be decisive in world history.

On the topic: “I just don’t understand what kind of world we live in,” Zelensky on whether there will be help from the United States

Will have devastating consequences

At the same time, the majority leader noted that the loss of Ukraine to Russia would have “devastating consequences” for the United States.

This is a turning point, an inflection point, regarding the ability of the United States to project itself – our strength, our power, our capabilities – to the world.”
Schumer noted.

That is why it is very important to provide Ukrainian forces with the necessary weapons. In particular, he pointed to the weapons that the Armed Forces of Ukraine need especially urgently and in large quantities:

  • in artillery shells;
  • in weapons to disrupt Russian supply networks;
  • in anti-aircraft weapons.

Schumer also spoke about communicating with a Ukrainian drone operator who was able to identify the location of Russian artillery, but did not have the ammunition to eliminate it.

Russian troops, on the contrary, can fire artillery much longer than Ukrainian artillery can fire in response.

“The Russians can move back and hit the Ukrainians, and the Ukrainians can’t hit back,” Chuck Schumer said.

More about Chuck Schumer’s visit to Ukraine

  • On February 23, a delegation of American senators headed by the majority leader in the US Senate, Democrat Chuck Schumer, arrived in Lviv.
  • He said during a press conference that the main purpose of the senators’ visit was to assure Ukrainians that they would make every effort to ensure that a decision on US assistance to Ukraine was made.
  • Let us recall that the US Senate voted to allocate assistance to Ukraine in the amount of more than $60 billion. However, the House of Representatives, led by Speaker Mike Johnson, did not make this decision, but announced a recess until the end of February. So, this issue was once again postponed.
  • In addition, Schumer promised to tell Speaker Johnson what he and the senators saw in Ukraine. “We will tell Speaker Johnson: ‘Go to Ukraine! Visit the places where we have been. Look what we saw.” Then, according to the Senate Majority Leader, “it will be impossible for any person with dignity and good will” to “turn his back on Ukraine.”
