NEW YORK – New York Senator Chuck Schumer may add one more accolade to his list: he now holds the ceremonial key to New York City.
The Senate Majority Leader received the honor from Mayor Bill de Blasio at a COVID-related press conference on Wednesday.
“There is no better public servant this city has produced in literally our entire history,” De Blasio said.
Schumer is the twelfth person or group that de Blasio has granted the ceremonial key (which resembles a key used to open the back door of the City Hall, but which, in fact, does not work on any known lock).
The honor for Schumer comes a day after another Brooklyn native, filmmaker Spike Lee, received the same honor.
“Let me tell you that New York is a labor of love for me,” said Schumer, thanking all of his employees over the years for their accomplishments in particular.
