Jean-François Duhamel, former head of the pediatric department of CHU de Caen (Calvados), is dead. He was notably the creator of the university pediatrics department in Caen.
“It is under his responsibility that this service has proven its usefulness and competence,” said the mayor of Caen Joël Bruneau in a press release paying tribute to him.
Very invested in the treatment of cystic fibrosis
Intern in Amiens and Paris, Jean-François Duhamel became head of clinic in 1974 and professor in 1981. Laureate of the Academy of Sciences prize, member of the High Council of Public Health, he has signed nearly 400 publications, in particular in the fields of nutrition and the treatment of cystic fibrosis. He is notably at the origin of the first systematic screening program in France for cystic fibrosis in newborns.
Invested for a long time, as part of his work with children, in 2007 he received the gold medal for Youth and Sports. He was also elected in 2013 within the first division of the National Academy of Medicine.
