Honorary Ambassador Leonidas Chrysanthopoulos made an unprecedented statement-complaint referring to a document that came into his possession.
As he mentions there is an official document calling for conscription in Greece due to the tension between Israel and Iran.
He notes that the call for preventive mobilization “is dated October 1” due to the tension in the Middle East and between Israel and Iran “for the defense of national security and the preparation of the Greek army. Signed by Lieutenant General Pitsilis”.
“So instructions came to the Ministry of Defense because there will be unpleasant and difficult developments”, he adds.
“Here we don’t do preventive deployments with the problems with the Turks and suddenly for the first time in a long time it happens here and the reason is mentioned, tension between Israel and Iran. This says a lot and it’s not an exercise (…) recruitment, it’s putting the preventive in this way to soften it somehow so that people don’t worry”, he says.
If something like this is happening, it is questionable that the country is involved in such adventures because of the Mitsotakis government policy in the Middle East and in fact at a time when nothing has been done against the repeated Turkish aggression where the government’s response ranges between inaction and empty words…

PS Leonidas Chrysanthopoulos served as ambassador of Greece in Armenia, Poland, Canada, as G.G. of OSEP (2006-12) and as Director General of European Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. For his anti-memorial resistance, he was stripped of the title of honorary ambassador by presidential decree in 2013, which was returned to him in 2016.
