Jakarta, CNN Indonesia

Valentino Rossi has announced that he will retire from MotoGP at the end of this season. Here’s the chronology of Valentino Rossi until he decided to retire.

Valentino Rossi has announced that he will retire after MotoGP 2021. He made the decision in a press conference held at the Red Bull Ring Circuit, Austria, on Thursday (5/8) night.

The 42-year-old racer admitted that the decision to retire from the event that had raised his name was not an easy decision. Nevertheless, he admits that he has had a long and enjoyable journey in the motorcycle racing arena.

“I decided to stop at the end of this season. This is a very sad moment, it is not easy to know I will not race in MotoGP next year,” Rossi said in a press conference session.

Rossi’s decision to retire was taken in line with his declining performance and it was difficult to compete with young riders.

Since MotoGP 2017, the former Ducati rider has started to lose his spurs. Valentino Rossi, who was the runner-up of MotoGP from 2014 to 2016, was only able to finish fifth in the 2017 season.

The Doctor’s performance had increased in the 2018 MotoGP season by successfully finishing in third place in the standings. However, in the 2019 season, The Doctor’s achievements declined again by finishing seventh in the final standings.

Rossi’s performance is getting worse by finishing 15th in MotoGP 2020. Even worse, Rossi has not won a race since the 2017 Dutch MotoGP.

With the declining performance and the difficulty of competing with young riders, many have suggested Rossi to retire. Since then, the issue of Rossi retiring from MotoGP has been getting stronger.
