Chronology of the Discovery of Human Cages in the Langkat Regent’s House, Allegedly a Place of Slavery

LANGKAT, KOMPAS.TV The Regent of Langkat is inactive Publishing a War-Angin Plan, is suspected of committing modern slavery after being found in a human cage or prison in his residence.

The findings stem from a search of Terbit’s house in Raja Tengah Village, Kuala District, Langkat Regency, North Sumatra by the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK).

The migrant worker organization, Migrant Care, then reported the findings of the human cage to the National Human Rights Commission (Komnas HAM).

The person in charge of Migrant CARE, Anis Hidayah, said that at least more than 40 people had been detained at the Terbit Plan Warin-Angin prison.

Dozens of these people are being held in two human prisons at the Terbit house.

“There are two cells inside the Regent’s house that were used to imprison 40 workers after they worked,” said Anis, Monday (1/24/2022), quoted from TribunMedan.

Furthermore, Anis said the detainees were employed in oil palm plantations.

Every day, they will work for 10 hours, from 08.00 to 18.00.

After work, the prisoners would be put back in prison by the Rising so that they could not go anywhere.

“The workers are employed in their oil palm plantations for 10 hours, from 8 am to 6 pm,” he said.
